If YouTube never existed, many things about the WHOLE INTERNET would change. First off, it would be extremely hard to make money off of the internet. If you owned an online shopping company, you would make less money, as most YouTube videos are focused on opening orders from mostly online (Unbox Therapy).
In November 13 2006, YouTube was sold to Google about $1 billion+ in stock. But what if Jawed Karim or Chad Hurley decided that they keep YouTube? How would it affect the platform?
Jawed could have very well moved on and found another company like YouTube. Or create a service like Netflix but people would send in home videos on DVD. I don't see how financially reliable this is but it is a theory. Google Video would have replaced it.
