Aug 7, 2023 · Tagore’s contribution to poetry goes beyond mere words. His verses have inspired movements, fueled freedom struggles, and provided solace to troubled souls. Today, more than a century after many of his poems were written, they continue to inspire, resonate, and evoke emotions, a testament to their timeless appeal.
Many of his poems are actually songs, and inseparable from their music. His written production, still not completely collated, fill 26 substantial volumes. At the age of 70 Tagore took up painting. He was also a composer, settings hundreds of poems to music. Tagore's song Sonar Bangla (Our Golden Bengal) became the national anthem of Bangladesh.

Oct 11, 2024 · Tagore’s novels in Bengali are less well known than his poems and short stories; they include Gora (1910) and Ghare-Baire (1916), translated into English as Gora and The Home and the World, respectively. In the late 1920s, when he was in his 60s, Tagore took up painting and produced works that won him a place among India’s foremost contemporary artists.
