Sep 6, 2018 · No, I’m talking about the MR2 Spyder, the oft-forgotten third generation MR2 produced from 2000 to 2007. The Spyder is the unloved son of the bunch and there are probably a few reasons for that. It forewent the iconic pop-up headlights for big, sort of frog-like headlamps and the roof was done away with completely (no t-tops here).
The Toyota MR2 and MR2 Spyder are rock reliable by the standards of small sports cars, and any of the cars in the first two generations (1985 to 1995) are a safe bet for reliable and fun motoring. The MR2 Spyder is also very robust, but later models, from 2003 to 2005, tend to have fewer issues than the early cars.

While Toyota wasn’t the first company to manufacture a small, inexpensive, mass produced sports car, they were the first to have major success. The little Toyota sold exceptionally well and would go on to be one of the most loved cars of the 80’s and nineties.
