  1. Dec 5, 2008 · Take for instance the simple case where you try to decode the following base 64 encoded string "BQ==", ... How do I base64 encode a SHA1() string in a C program. 2.

  2. This C code explains how to encode data in base64 format using the OpenSSL package. The base64_encode function takes as input a pointer to the data to be encoded and the length of the data in bytes. It returns a pointer to a newly allocated buffer containing the base64-encoded data.

A very popular way to encode binary data is Base64. The basis of this is anencoding table. As you might expect, there are 64 total characters that go intothe tale. There are multiple implementations of base64 with slight differences. They are all the same except for the last two characters and line endingrequirements. The first 62 characters are alw...

In Base64 encoding, 3 binary bytes are represented as 4 characters. This givesus a 4:3 ratio, meaning there is 33% overhead for base64. To get the number ofbase64 characters needed for a given binary data blob, take the length of inputand round up to the nearest multiple of 3. Then, divide by 3 to get the numberof 3 byte blocks. Multiply by 4 to get the number of base64 characters. The date for each set of 3 binary bytes is spread over 4 characters giving us 6bits per character. 3 bytes total...

    Padding#

Base64 works in blocks of 3 bytes. Implementations such as PEM require paddingusing = character. Padding keeps the correct number of characters whenthere are not enough bytes in the sequence. Ending with a single = means thelast binary sequence contains 2 bytes. Ending with ==means it contains 1byte.

Since a little math is involved to determine the encoded size we’ll use thissimple function to help us out. It’s pretty self explanatory but if you didn’t read the paragraphs above thatexplain the math, I highly recommend you go back and do so. Now we need to move the mapping table. Unlike decoding this is an array whichwe’ll reference by index as ...

Much like encoding, we need to do some math to determine binary data size ofsome Base64 encoded data we might have. Really this is just the opposite of what we didn’t for encoding. Next we need a decoding table! Wooo, magic numbers. This is our decoding table. This is based on a shift from + which is thelowest ASCII character (43) in the sequence. ...

  4. Jul 4, 2023 · Use b64_encode Function for Encoding§. You can use the b64_encode function to encode a string in Base64 format. The function takes three parameters: a pointer to the input data, the length of the input data (in bytes), and a pointer to an output buffer where the encoded data will be stored.

  5. Nov 28, 2023 · First of all it's a problem of emails – for example, encoding is necessary when you need to attach an image to a textual message. This was the reason why base64 was first introduced. Incompatible data is stored in files or elsewhere. Often you need to embed non-textual data in a textual file like JSON, XML or HTML.

  7. Jun 22, 2023 · Overview of Encoding and Decoding. Encoding: Binary data is split into 3 byte chunks, converted to 4 Base64 characters. Decoding: Base64 text is converted back 4 chars at a time to the original binary data. Decoding reverses the encoding process to reconstruct the original data.
