debutante, a young woman who is making a formal entrance into society. So-called debutante balls, dating back to at least the 18th century, were originally intended as an avenue through which to present young women eligible for marriage to prospective high-society partners.

Antenna: Vertical rods mounted to the net, directly above the sidelines. These rods are technically out-of-bounds, and as such, any ball striking them is out of play. Attacker: The player attempting to hit the ball to terminate play on the opponent’s side of the net. Also known as “Hitter”.
Free ball: A ball that is passed over the net because an attack wasn't possible. Free ball kill: A celebratory term when an easy pass is sent over the net and scores a point. Four-Two: Six player offense where there are two designated setters and the front row setter sets.
