Biology Glossary (For use with DIVE and CLEP Professor Biology) abiotic environment ‐ All of the physical, or non‐living, components of given ecosystem.
The term can be used to refer to the process of isolating single cells or viruses and letting them proliferate (as in a hybridoma clone, which is a "biological clone"), or the process of isolating and replicating a piece of DNA by recombinant DNA techniques ("molecular clone").
