Aug 10, 2015 · Hawthorn wands may be particularly suited to healing magic, but they are also adept at curses, and I have generally observed that the hawthorn wand seems most at home with a conflicted nature, or with a witch or wizard passing through a period of turmoil.
- Troll Whisker. Core. It's well known within the Wizarding World that there are three supreme cores within the wandmaking business, which include Dragon heartstring, Unicorn hair, and Phoenix feather.
- Ash. Wood. Ash is well known for channeling the magic energy of the different Harry Potter wands and while it may be slightly out of circulation, some of the earliest broomsticks utilized the wood in their creation.
- Coral. Core. Sometimes there are different Harry Potter wand types that are rarely used as they aren't fully understood. The international community might actually use natural materials quite differently depending on the region and Coral is a great example of that.
- Willow. Wood. Willow is a very useful wood to utilize in wandmaking of the different Harry Potter wands, but one that's actually pretty uncommon. Ollivander himself took a liking to the material and his wand shop sold a number of variations of design, that drew from the diverse willow species available.
- Adept At Healing Magic. Hawthorn wands are especially good at producing healing magic and are particularly suited for this form of ability. This may stem from the tree's leaves and flowers which are said to having healing abilities, as well.
- Excellent For Curses. But, just as this wand is good with healing magic, it is also utterly adept and exceeds in producing curses. This wand will aid witches and wizards who seek trouble and enjoy getting up to no good.
- Not Easy To Master. Given its utter complexity and contradicting nature, this wand isn't for the faint of heart and doesn't choose just anyone. That being said, even beyond that, this wand is rather difficult to master if not in the proper conditions.
- Must Be With A Witch Or Wizard With Proven Talent. A wand made of hawthorn wood must, at all costs, go into the hands of a witch or wizard who will surely have some proven talent—someone with a natural ability to learning magic with ease.
- Harry Potter. Olivander giving Harry Potter his first wand is of the most iconic scenes in "Harry Potter: The Sorcerer's Stone." In the film, the music swells and the air swirls around the boy as the wand chooses him, but the little celebration is sharply ended when Olivander reveals that Harry's 11-inch wand shares a deep connection with Voldemort's, much like the boy himself.
- Hermione Granger. Of all the characters in the series, Hermione Granger has a wand that reflects her rather perfectly. It was made using vine surrounding a dragon heartstring core, both of which are rare and exceptional materials that enhance some of Hermione's best qualities.
- Ron Weasley. Of all the characters on this list, Ronald Weasley probably has the worst luck with wands. His first wasn't even purchased or chosen for him; it was a hand-me-down from his older brother, Charlie.
