The Individual Education Plan (IEP) is a useful tool for plan-ning and communicating with colleagues and parents. It is a written plan, developed for an individual student, which de-scribes the program modifications and/or adaptations for the student and the services that are to be provided.
It is a concise, flexible and usable document that summarizes a plan for the student’s education program. The IEP is designed to be an enabling process. The document is developed from a positive perspective with an understanding of the student strengths and needs.
Examples of how information about human resource services should be recorded in an IEP include the following: Youth Counsellor, 30 minutes, one day a week, conference room. Special Education Teacher, 40 minutes, 4 to 5 days a week, resource room. Teacher’s Assistant, 30 minutes, daily, playground.

This means anything from a child who is blind and requires instruction in braille to a child who has ADHD and requires small-group instruction in math.
