- Ace. A serve that goes unanswered by the service returner. For a serve to be considered an “Ace”, it must clear the net without touching it, land within the service box or on the service lines, and there must be no contact made by the returner on the ball.
- Advantage (Ad) In scoring, “Advantage” or “Ad” for short refers to a one-point lead following a Deuce score (tied at 40-40). If a player wins the next point after being at Advantage, they win the game.
- Ad Court. The left side of the tennis court (left of the center mark) relative to the server’s or service returner’s side of the court. It is referred to as “Ad Court” because this is the side of the court where either the server or the returner has the “Advantage” following a Deuce (40-40 tie) score.
- Ad-In. In scoring, “Ad-In” refers to the server or service team having the point “Advantage” or lead. Ad-In and Ad-Out are used to distinguish between the service side having the Advantage or the return side having the Advantage.
- Ace – A serve that lands inside the lines and is untouched by the opponent, thereby scoring a point.
- Advantage – The player or team which wins the deuce point is said to have the advantage. If the player serving won the deuce point, it is called “advantage in” or Ad-In.
