A good medic really is a deciding factor on campaign maps (not as important in horde cause you can just buy medkits), especially with all the mutator combinations. But instead of competent medics, we get clueless ones who are just another gun player with a med kit; they could've used any other class and the team would be better off.
I've found this Medic build to be optimal for keeping the team stemmed, medkitted and ready to party hearty for those long grindy matches. The key to being a good medic in horde mode is getting as MANY kills as you possibly can as quickly as you can (perhaps not what you expected to hear).

I can't show you my current setup 'coz I'm in the middle of prestige. BUT: Triage -> combined later with Triage II reduce time required to use medkit to ~1 second which allow you to heal pretty much anywhere and anytime without too much risk.
