Aug 18, 2023 · Yet few comprehensive empirical approaches to establishing the value of data exist, and there is no consensus about which methods should be applied to specific data types or purposes. This paper examines a range of data valuation methodologies proposed in the existing literature.
Three basic methods are most common:1) cost, 2) income and 3) market approaches.2 However, the value of data does not lie solely in its monetization and sale. Alternative approaches are emerging that consider the wider value of data to an organization, its stakeholders and society beyond financial transactions.
