    • Assist: An assist is awarded anytime a set, pass, or dig to a player results in that teammate attacking the ball for a kill. The setter usually owns the most assists on a team.
    • Attack attempt: An attack attempt is recorded anytime a player attempts to hit the ball into the opponent’s court. It could be spiked, tipped, or hit.

  2. 2 Answers. Sorted by: 25. There are only two (different) actions when you are permitted to reach beyond (over) the net: blocking and attack hit. After making an attack hit, you are allowed to pass your hand beyond the net, but the contact must have been made within your own playing space.

  3. (1) An attempt is not charged on a ball played over the net on serve reception that is kept in play by the opposing team. This is called an overpass. (2) An attempt is not charged on a free ball played over the net when, in the opinion of the statistician, the free ball is passed only to keep the ball in play.
