Football: Football is the term used instead of the word soccer in many countries around the world. The United States, Canada, and Australia are the main countries that call the game soccer rather than football. Foot Trap: A foot trap is when a player puts their foot on top of a ball that is rolling along the ground.
- Two Goalposts and a Crossbar. The first piece of soccer field equipment that is used in a game of soccer is the goal frame. As with many things in soccer, there are specific regulations about the size and shape the goal has to be.
- A Goal Net. Having goal posts and a crossbar is great, but having a net makes the goal complete. One of the joys of scoring a goal is seeing the ripple of the net as the ball hits it.
- Corner Flags. On a soccer field, it is a requirement to have a corner flag in each corner of the field. It is also permitted to place a flag at either end of the halfway line, but this isn’t a requirement, and you don’t see it at every game.
- Soccer Ball. There are few items of equipment as important to a game of soccer as a soccer ball. Without it, you simply wouldn’t be able to play the game.
- The Field of Play. There are very few fixed dimensions for soccer fields, even at the highest level. FIFA only stipulates that for professional 11-versus-11 competition, the length must be between 100 yards and 130 yards and the width between 50 and 100 yards.
- The Soccer Ball. The circumference of a soccer ball must not be more than 28 inches (70 centimeters) and not less than 27 inches. The ball, as used by ages 12 and above, may not weigh more than 16 ounces and not less than 14 ounces at the start of a match.
- The Number of Players. A match is played by two teams. Each team may have no more than 11 players on the field at any one time, including the goalkeeper.
- The Players' Equipment. This rule outlines the equipment that players may and may not wear, including jewelry and clothing. A standard uniform consists of a shirt, shorts, socks, shoes, and shinguards.
