Nov 22, 2007 · I ask because some brands of trailers have pretty high tongues. I use the Draw-Tite Trunnion style weight distribution hitch rated for 1200 lbs tongue weight. The round bar hitches seem like they are for lighter duty set ups. I have been using the Trunnion style with the standard height shank, Draw-Tite part number 3210 on a 24' haulmark trailer.

Most weight distribution hitch systems come with internal sway control and the weight distribution helps control trailer sway as well. There's also a product called a sway control hitch. This isn't the same as a weight distribution hitch and will only work to help control trailer sway, but it won't evenly distribute trailer weight.
