The MFA in Studio Arts represents the culmination of academic training in the visual arts. Alongside exemplary production skills within a given medium, our graduate students develop sophisticated understandings of the conceptual underpinnings of their work; of the social significance of their activities; and of the historical lineage and antecedents of their ideas.
SAIC's highly acclaimed Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio is a 60-credit program that supports creative work, inquiry, and investigation across 12 different departments as part of the advanced preparation of fine arts practitioners. The Master of Fine Arts degree is offered in studio art. Candidates are required to take 18 credit units of course work in addition to a thesis exhibition and seminar. Candidates should anticipate a minimum of two years to complete the program, taking half of the required course work each year and maintaining an active studio practice throughout the program.
