May 19, 2015 · Fiberglass rods were invented in the 1940's and the first fiberglass fly rods were produced in the mid 1940s. I'm not sure when the became the equal of the mass market bamboo fly rods. If we say the fiberglass era was from the mid 1940s - 1973, that would be 30 years maximum.
