The first Canadian Nurse Practitioner Core Competency Framework, published in 2005, was developed in collaboration with the Canadian jurisdictions through the support of the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Initiative.1 This document updates and replaces the 2005 publication.
Be specific and use examples. Your nursing competency statement should be specific and focused on what you can do and how you do it. Use examples and case studies to support your claims. Focus on measurable outcomes. Your nursing competency statement should focus on measurable outcomes that demonstrate your level of proficiency.
Try to identify the competencies you developed with each role. Don’t limit yourself to paid employment; unpaid work can also build valuable experience when you work as a: student; caregiver; volunteer; or. member of a church or community group. Make a detailed list of all of your skills.
