eBay favors businesses over customers. It appears eBay still has bad customer skills. It still supports businesses over consumers. Where the saying the consumer is always right. EBay allows for businesses to lie, make false reports where the consumer was mislead by the business. Beware of sellers like goodbye retail.
The eBay culture is that anything below around 97-98% positive is widely considered not good. Whereas on Amazon (broadly speaking) 4* and up is considered good. Mathematically the average of 4.2/5 you mention is is around 85% - but that's really an apples/oranges comparison: eBay's system is binary: positive or negative.
So I sent an email to the Better Business Bureau and I called The Federal Trade Commision and made complaint reports. I also posted this on ebay's buyer community but unfortunately the people who responded to my posts weren't the kind helpful people who responded to the many posts over the years about the fake tracking number scam.
It is appalling that eBay does nothing to stop merchants from marking prices up 10 fold. Something that costs 180$ normally is being sold for 600$ on eBay. Discusting!! eBay should have policies in place that do not allow sellers to mark an item up more than a certain percent above market value. Date of experience: April 30, 2020
