Containers, as the name suggests, are items for containing things. Some of these items can not be equipped on the character but are used to free up inventory space by providing storage and taking up fewer inventory slots. Hover over the icons of the containers for a quick view of their layouts.
The point of these little boxes is that thats how ammo is packaged in real life. It’s also easier to loot them when they spawn outside of containers (loose rounds are RLY hard to spot on the ground).

My only advice for you is to literally memorize the names of the top 2-3 highest pen ammo for each commonly used calibre. Then also memorize the highest flesh damage ammo for each calibre. These are the rounds that have the highest combat effectiveness, and will also sell for the most on the Flea.
