  1. Apr 12, 2022 · 16. Pinocchio. While Geppetto’s wooden son rose to global stardom thanks to Disney’s 1940 movie, the original story was actually created in Florence. Author Carlo Collodi published The Adventures of Pinocchio in a weekly magazine for children between 1881 and 1882.

    • The Birthplace of the Renaissance. Florence is known for being the birthplace of the Renaissance. The word “renaissance” comes from a French word meaning “rebirth.”
    • UNESCO’s World Heritage Site 1982. Florence’s historic center is the only city in the world to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in 1982, making it one of Italy’s most well-known landmarks.

    • Giotto’s Bell Tower. The bell tower of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral is one of our favourite photo locations in Florence. For us, it has the best view of the Duomo in Florence and also boasts stunning views across the city.
    • Brunelleschi’s Dome. Brunelleschi’s Dome is one of the highlights of Florence and also one of the best photo spots in the city. The view from the top looks incredible: the leading lines of the dome roof beneath the viewing platform is one of the iconic shots of Florence.
    • Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. The cathedral itself is incredible both inside and outside and easily worthy of a photo spot of its own. The beautiful marble exterior and red roof make for some nice images and the interior is beautiful too.
    • The side streets off the Duomo. Before you leave the cathedral area make sure to check out this great photo location we found as we left the cathedral and made our way towards the Arno river.
    • Duomo & Brunelleschi’s Dome. The most recognizable landmark of Florence, the Cathedral or the Duomo is absolutely not to be missed when visiting Florence for the first time.
    • Giotto’s Bell Tower. Standing right next to the cathedral, you’ll find another landmark of Florence, Giotto’s Campanile. This is the cathedral’s bell tower.
    • Piazza del Duomo & the Baptistery of St. John. Piazza del Duomo is Florence’s main square, home to the cathedral and the splendid buildings of Giotto’s Campanile and the Baptistery of St. John.
    • Uffizi Gallery. It would be unthinkable to go to Florence without paying a visit to the Uffizi Gallery. Established in the 16th century, this is one of the oldest museums in the world.
