To effectively address this issue and reduce food loss and waste at a national, provincial and territorial, municipal, agri-food sector, industry, and individual business level, it is crucial to know how much uneaten food is being lost or wasted in these different contexts.
The Food Waste Reduction Challenge was launched in 2020 to accelerate and advance diverse and high-impact solutions to food waste in Canada. In May 2021, twenty-four semi-finalists were selected under the Business Models stream of the Challenge (seeking solutions to prevent or divert food waste).
