Gibbs Gardens is a magical place all year long, but in September— as late summer morphs into early fall— an incredible transformation takes place. The gardens’ Seasons of Color overlap, providing visitors with an inspiring view of nature’s transition at its most glorious.
Sep 12, 2019 · Mr. Gibbs started his gardens in 1980 on his 300-acre private family estate, and then opened them to the public in 2012 as a fully mature gardens. His dream was to create a world-class public garden, which he did with his 220 acres of landscaped gardens next to spring-fed steams, ponds, and lakes.
Fast forward, today, Gibbs Gardens is one of the nation’s largest residential estate gardens. 356 acres of mature trees, rolling hills, parkland, artistically designed flower gardens, 20 seasonal flower displays and five unique feature gardens.
The Inspiration Garden today is a treasure, bejeweled with beautiful flowering plants: more than 1500 evergreen Encore azaleas in all 33 varieties, 1200 native azaleas of over 100 varieties. Gibbs added a collection of rare and unusual dwarf Japanese maples, a dwarf ginkgo collection and 200 varieties of dwarf conifers.
