Sep 15, 2018 · Well two updates since I bought this. (1) First the rifle smith Mr. Penrod did NOT make the rail-gun block (above) that came with the barreled action. No idea who did. (2) I don't have a rail gun and couldn't let the block go to waste, and wanted a bench stock for it.
- Pastis. The best substitute for Pernod anise is pastis because pastis is versatile and matches Pernod’s taste and aroma. The most popular and widely available type of pastis — Ricard Pastis — is produced by the same company that makes Pernod.
- Absinthe. Absinthe is an anise-flavored distilled spirit. This spirit isn’t sweet and imparts an anise taste without overwhelming a dish’s original flavors.
- Ouzo. Ouzo is a clear, Greek aperitif made from distilled grape must. The beverage is potent and traditionally seasoned with anise, cardamom, fennel, clove, and mint.
- Sambuca. Sambuca is a smooth, Italian liqueur with anise flavoring. The beverage has a similar taste, aroma, and alcohol content to Pernod. However, sambuca is slightly sweeter than Pernod and often has notes of elderflower.

The liqueur is a golden yellow color out of the bottle, and when diluted with cold water, turns a lighter milky yellow hue, honoring its colloquial name, “Milk of Marseille.”.
