The intent of this chapter is to introduce one milestone, the American Counseling Association (ACA) Advocacy Competencies, and describe the events leading to their development. We then provide an overview of the Advocacy Competencies model including its dimensions and domains.
This chapter provides a foundation for understanding the connection between social justice, advocacy, and the Advocacy Competencies. A historical overview of social justice is provided along with a review of concepts related to social justice and their definitions in the literature.
