The gallery is also home to the Guild of St George’s unique Ruskin Collection. Spanning art, illustrated manuscripts and minerals, the collection was established in the 1800s to inspire the people of Sheffield. Today, it’s showcased through regularly changing displays celebrating the contemporary relevance of Ruskin’s visionary ideas.
- Options for getting to Rockefeller Center. You could walk, depending on how far that would be for you. Or you could also easily take the subway or use a ride company like Uber, Lyft or a Taxi.
- Arrive Early. Arrive before 6:30 am for optimal benefit. Otherwise, arrive when you can, but as early as you can. If you arrive before 6:30 AM, you will be more likely to be interviewed and that segment shown on TV.
- Food and Beverages are allowed in the Plaza. Stop for a beverage and bite to eat and take it with you. While on our walk, we decided to stop at a little café and get a bagel and hot chocolate to take with us, to keep us warm in the 30 degree cold and nourish us since we didn’t know how long we would be there.
- Bouchon Bakery is across the plaza. If you need to go to the restroom or want to get something to eat or drink, you can head to Bouchon Bakery. You can also find a spot to sit in there if you or someone in your party doesn’t want to be in the mix of the Today show filming.
Since opening, the Millennium Gallery has welcomed many of the UK’s finest touring exhibitions, including shows from the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate, and the National Portrait Gallery. Highlights have included Constable, Vivienne Westwood: The Exhibition, The European Design Show and Restless Times: Art in Britain 1914–1945.
This area is also home to the Showroom Cinema, Sheffield, an arthouse cinema which occasionally showcases art. Weston Park Museum incorporates the Sheffield City Museum and Mappin Art Gallery which first opened in 1887. Cupola Contemporary Art Gallery (established in 1991) is located in Hillsborough opposite the Leppings Lane tramstop.
