Contents. 1 Pre-Boss. 2 Pre-Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu. 3 Pre-The Hive Mind/The Perforators. 4 Pre-Skeletron. 5 Pre-Wall of Flesh. Pre-Boss. Start as you normally would — build a couple of houses and increase your maximum health and mana. Make sure to look for Hermes Boots and the like.
Entering Hardmode massively expands the gear options for every class. Life Fruits are available immediately, and you can create a Comet Shard to increase your maximum mana. You can beat Queen Slime or Cryogen for better gear.
Currently playing a flamethrower specialist Ranger. Little tricky to get into, but *very* satisfying and quite powerful. I'm in a Master world and took down WoF with the Shadethrower with no trouble at all. Summoner is also very effective, as long as you keep your minion count high.
Excluding true melee, it has best dps for post skeletron hardmode, post golem - ml, post dog - endgame with autoaim (minions attack by themselves so you can focus on dodging). Rogue on the other hand has similar defence, inconsistent dps, almost to autoaim weapons and requires a high skill to be used effectively.
There is no best class, the mod is carefully balanced (tries to be anyway) so that every class is equally good at every point in the game, with different play styles and stats to boot. It's all ultimately down to your preference.
