I'm trying to decide what class to play. I've done a playthrough to the end on death mode as mage and as ranger. What class would be best for my playstyle- that is, dealing the highest possible single target (eg bosses) damage, without a care in the world for health, defense, or armour?
The Calamity Mod is a large content mod for Terraria which adds many hours of endgame content and dozens of enemies and bosses dispersed throughout the vanilla game's progression.
Excluding true melee, it has best dps for post skeletron hardmode, post golem - ml, post dog - endgame with autoaim (minions attack by themselves so you can focus on dodging). Rogue on the other hand has similar defence, inconsistent dps, almost to autoaim weapons and requires a high skill to be used effectively.
Guides. Start as you normally would — build a couple of houses and increase your maximum health and mana. Make sure to look for Hermes Boots and the like. If you have a Gravitation Potion, look for floating islands and Planetoids.

If we include the Halibut cannon, the answer should be obvious. Summoner is the strongest class, because only they can efficiently afk farm for it XD. Melee means the boss chases you. This means in a multiplayer setting the boss is significantly more predictable than if you weren't melee.
