Most high schools require students to complete two to three years of science classes in order to graduate. These classes often include a laboratory component in which students must conduct hands-on experiments as part of the class. The course sequence for science classes in most US high schools goes like this: Biology → Chemistry → Physics.

Chemistry is a physical science, like physics. Meanwhile, biology is a life science. You can pick up a physics text and never encounter a biological concept. You can get pretty far into chemistry before you encounter biology, but eventually you’ll study organic chemistry, and biochemistry. A biology book, meanwhile, includes a periodic table and at...
Here are some examples of the importance of chemistry in biology: 1. Photosynthesis is the way plants make food (a molecule called glucose). It’s a set of chemical reactions that feeds not only plants, but also animals and fungi. 2. Other processes in plants that rely on chemistry include leaf color changeand fruit ripening. Knowing the chemistry o...

A STEM class in your school can be any class that focuses on STEM-related subjects, i.e. a lesson that has a science, technology, engineering or math element. This includes life sciences like genetics, botany, zoology, and ecology. It can also include physical sciences like analytical chemistry and physics.

To take to the zoology pathway at my university (USA), it was required 2 years of chemistry (gen and organic) as part of the curriculum. A lot of people struggle with those "weed out" courses, so if you get ahead with understanding in high school, it will help. The actual "zoology" coursework had little to do with chemistry and animal management.
