What is an ILCA? The International Laser Class Association (ILCA) is the primary entity that organizes Laser racing around the world. In 2019, ILCA began a process of authorizing new boat manufacturers to build boats that could be raced in ILCA events.
The ILCA formula combines one hull with three different rigs: ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and ILCA 7. Young sailors starting out in the ILCA 4 can move up in rig sizes as they grow physically and develop tactically without the need to buy a complete new boat every few years.

Designed by Bruce Kirby (CAN) & Ian Bruce (CAN) in 1969, the ILCA 6 has a single mainsail, meaning it is lightweight and fast to sail. Visually, the ILCA 6 class is distinguishable from the ILCA 7 via the red rhombus carried on the mainsail of the boats used in the Women’s event.
