The first branch library constructed by the Metropolitan Library System in over 30 years, the Patience S. Latting Northwest Library combines imagery of the Oklahoma prairie with the technology and purpose of a modern library.
BUDGET. $5M - 10M. In May 2008 LWPB Architecture teamed with library planning consultant Richard + Bauer (Phoenix, AZ) to respond to the City of Oklahoma City's RFP (Request for Proposal) for the design of a new branch library, Oklahoma City’s first branch to constructed in over 35 years.
The Patience S. Latting Northwest Library is one of 19 locations that make up the Metropolitan Library System. Our library system serves all of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma County. Our library opened on May 22, 2012 as the first new Metro Library location in more than 30 years.
All signage and wayfinding has been designed to emulate the Route 66 style popular along Oklahoma’s “mother road”. Book stack end panels portray scenes familiar to our state such as oil field equipment, prairie grasses, windmill vanes, and burning sunsets.
