The Man from Nowhere was one of the Children's Film Foundation's occasional excursions into horror, which given this was meant for kids was not particularly horrible, though many have memories of watching this as youngsters and being scared by the title character, even if the final explanation owed more to Scooby-Doo than M.R. James, in spite of the historical setting.

The Man from Nowhere is a lot of fun, though the denoument is a pretty soft sell, with its clattering score to highlight every time "the man" shows up out of nowhere. Throw in some lovable Bash Street Kids style train station urchins, a spooky uncle, a friendly house-keeper and some notions towards class divide and you have perfectly serviceable hours entertainment.
