NASA’s contribution to Envision, VenSAR, builds on decades of planetary radar experience dating back to the NASA/JPL Magellan radar mapping mission launched to Venus in 1989. Envision is the first mission to Venus with a subsurface radar sounding instrument (SRS), which will directly measure the planet’s subsurface features.
Jan 25, 2024 · EnVision will be the second European mission to Venus. ESA's Venus Express mission (2005-2014) focussed more on the planet's atmosphere, but also made significant discoveries that pointed to possible volcanic hotspots on the surface.
The European Space Agency (ESA) is launching the EnVision spacecraft in 2031 or later to study Venus and its past. EnVision will tell us the history Venus experienced that drove it from being habitable to hellish. NASA is collaborating with ESA to enhance the scientific output from their missions.
