May 24, 2021 · If you only have one sample from the population you calculate the standard deviation and then it is used the formula you mention above, but, I have seen that if you have several samples and you have the mean of each of them the SEM = standard deviation of the distribution of those means, it is not divided by the root of n (being n the number of samples from the original population).
