The story of Bartimaeus is one of faith, courage, and desperation. Mark drops us into the story and we meet Bartimaeus along the roadside. Jesus, the disciples along with a crowd of followers come down the road and Bartimaeus finds out. How he knew who Jesus was, or that he could help him we aren’t told. But we can be sure that this moment is God o...

Blind Bartimaeus is an interesting story in the Bible, however, I think we often miss the significance of his story and encounter with Jesus. There are so many lessons we can take away from the story of Blind Bartimaeus in the Bible. Let’s take a look at seven lessons we can find in this story and how they can impact our lives today:

    • Do not let anybody silence your voice or dampen your enthusiasm when you’re chasing after Jesus. I have always loved how enthusiastically Bartimaeus called to Jesus.

    • Obstacles will be put in your way, be ready to cast them aside. One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Hebrew 12:1-2. We are encouraged to lay aside every obstacle or anything that will block us from God.
    • Don’t pay attention to the crowd. I once heard a Pastor ask, “When has the majority ever been right?” It’s a lesson I’ve pondered often. In the story of Blind Bartimaeus we saw the people try to silence him when he cried out to Jesus.
