The story of Bartimaeus is one of faith, courage, and desperation. Mark drops us into the story and we meet Bartimaeus along the roadside. Jesus, the disciples along with a crowd of followers come down the road and Bartimaeus finds out. How he knew who Jesus was, or that he could help him we aren’t told. But we can be sure that this moment is God o...
Blind Bartimaeus is an interesting story in the Bible, however, I think we often miss the significance of his story and encounter with Jesus. Bartimaeus’ story has a great wealth of encouragement and opens our eyes to our need for Christ and the dangers of being spiritually blind. During this period in history, Jewish people believed that illness a...
Every day blind Bartimaeus would pick up his coat, and go out to beg. This coat was unique; it was given out to signify that he was indeed a beggar, that he couldn’t work, that he had nothing to offer, that he had no purpose. It declared to all who and what he was. It was his identity.
The Lord is in this place, so often we forget this, the pain of our circumstances blind us. Our regrets, our disappointments steal our focus. We beg for validation, for hope, for someone to see our hurt and care enough to do something, to fix it- but we are looking for the answer in all the wrong places. Jan 4, 2022 · The story of Blind Bartimaeus occurs in the Gospel of Mark and concerns the healing of a blind beggar called Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus. A parallel account mentions two blind men (Matthew 20:30), but Mark focuses on the one who was no doubt familiar to his readers.
- Do not let anybody silence your voice or dampen your enthusiasm when you’re chasing after Jesus. I have always loved how enthusiastically Bartimaeus called to Jesus.
- Your relationship with Christ is personal. God is a relational God. He wants us to have an intimate relationship with Him. This can’t happen if we don’t keep our eyes firmly fixed on Him and don’t let anyone or anything distract you.
- Obstacles will be put in your way, be ready to cast them aside. One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Hebrew 12:1-2. We are encouraged to lay aside every obstacle or anything that will block us from God.
- Don’t pay attention to the crowd. I once heard a Pastor ask, “When has the majority ever been right?” It’s a lesson I’ve pondered often. In the story of Blind Bartimaeus we saw the people try to silence him when he cried out to Jesus.
The Story of Blind Bartimaeus. The story of blind Bartimaeus is told in Mark 10:46-52 and Luke 18:35-43. In this passage, Jesus is traveling with a large crowd through Jericho on His way to Jerusalem. And they happen to pass by Bartimaeus. (Although with God, nothing ever “just happens.” He always has a plan!)
Oct 18, 2015 · Bartimaeus, a down and out blind man, a poor person who begs for money, might be dishonored and marginalized by Greeks, he might be unclean to ritually clean Jews, but in Mark's telling he's a person we should honor.
