Jul 26, 2024 · The heart wall is composed of connective tissue, endothelium, and cardiac muscle. It is the cardiac muscle that enables the heart to contract and allows for the synchronization of the heartbeat. The three heart wall is divided into three layers: epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. Epicardium: the outer protective layer of the heart.

Nov 3, 2023 · The endocardium has two layers. The inner layer lines the heart chambers and is made of endothelial cells. Superiorly, is the second layer: a subendocardial connective tissue which is continuous with the connective tissue of the myocardium. Branches of the heart’s conduction system are immersed into the subendocardial layer.
Aug 4, 2023 · The epicardium is the outermost layer of the heart wall made up of mesothelium, fats, and connective tissues. It forms the inner serous layer of the pericardium; hence, it is also known as the visceral serous pericardium. Epicardium encloses the heart as well as the root of major blood vessels emerging from the heart like the aorta and the two ...
Oct 30, 2023 · The myocardium is the middle muscular layer of the heart. It is the thickest layer which lies between the single-cell endocardium layer, and the outer epicardium, which makes up the visceral pericardium that surrounds and protects the heart. The myocardium is composed of specialized muscle cells called cardiomyocytes.

Jan 4, 2024 · Endocardium. The innermost layer of the cardiac wall is known as the endocardium. It lines the cavities and valves of the heart. Structurally, the endocardium is comprised of loose connective tissue and simple squamous epithelial tissue – it is similar in its composition to the endothelium which lines the inside of blood vessels.

The inner layer of the heart wall is the endocardium, composed of endothelial cells that provide a smooth, elastic, non-adherent surface for blood collection and pumping. The endocardium may regulate metabolic waste removal from heart tissues and act as a barrier between the blood and the heart muscle, thus controlling the composition of the extracellular fluid in which the cardiomyocytes bathe.

Oct 20, 2024 · The wall of the heart is composed of three layers of unequal thickness. From superficial to deep, these are the epicardium, the myocardium, and the endocardium (see Figure \(\PageIndex{4}\)). The outermost layer of the wall of the heart is also the innermost layer of the pericardium, the epicardium, or the visceral pericardium discussed earlier.
