Jan 25, 2024 · Envision targets on Venus's surface. This time around, Envision will not be alone on its trip to Venus. Expecting a fruitful collaboration, NASA has also selected two new missions to Venus as part of its Discovery Program: DAVINCI (Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging) and VERITAS (Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy).
Journey and orbit: Envision will reach Venus after a 15-month cruise. After arriving, the spacecraft will spend 15 months aerobraking through Venus’ atmosphere to progressively reach its science orbit, a low Venus quasi-polar orbit, at a variable altitude of between 220 and 540 km and with an orbital period of about 94 minutes.
Jun 10, 2021 · Esa made the announcement one week after its American counterpart, Nasa, chose two Venus projects of its own, known as Veritas and Davinci+ ... Envision is now assumed to be "Go!". ...
Jan 27, 2024 · An artist's illustration depicts the EnVision mission to Venus, which will help scientists understand why Earth's most similar planetary neighbor in size is so different from our world.
Jun 10, 2021 · EnVision will make detailed observations of Venus to understand its history and especially understand the connections between the atmosphere and geologic processes. As a key partner in the mission, NASA provides the Synthetic Aperture Radar, called VenSAR, to make high resolution measurements of the planet’s surface features.
Jun 10, 2021 · Envision will be ESA’s next Venus orbiter, providing a holistic view of the planet from its inner core to upper atmosphere to determine how and why Venus and Earth evolved so differently. The mission was selected by ESA’s Science Programme Committee on 10 June as the fifth Medium-class mission in the Agency’s Cosmic Vision plan, targeting a launch in the early 2030s.
