Jan 25, 2024 · To ensure that it collects data on the most interesting parts of Venus’s surface, Envision’s observations are carefully planned by scientists, including planetary geologists. The spacecraft’s VenSAR radar instrument will be the first to map parts of the surface down to 10 m resolution, and even to allow scientists to investigate the surface properties and texture.

Expecting a fruitful collaboration, NASA has also selected two new missions to Venus as part of its Discovery Program: DAVINCI (Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging) and VERITAS (Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy).
The EnVision orbiter will set out to study current conditions on Venus and ascertain how the planet evolved. The mission will launch late 2031 atop an Ariane 62 from the Guiana Space Centre.
