Envision is the first mission to Venus with a subsurface radar sounding instrument (SRS), which will directly measure the planet’s subsurface features. Furthermore, its VenSAR radar will be the first instrument to image parts of the planet at a very fine resolution of 10 metres and to perform polarimetric imaging, to further advance our knowledge of Venus’ surface.

Jan 25, 2024 · Envision targets on Venus's surface. This time around, Envision will not be alone on its trip to Venus. Expecting a fruitful collaboration, NASA has also selected two new missions to Venus as part of its Discovery Program: DAVINCI (Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging) and VERITAS (Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy).
Jun 10, 2021 · Following an initial call for the fifth Medium-class mission concept in 2016, the final competition came down to Envision and Theseus, the Transient High-Energy Sky and Early Universe Surveyor. Theseus would monitor transient events across the whole sky and in particular focus on gamma-ray bursts from the Universe’s first billion years, to help shed light on the life cycle of the first stars.
The European Space Agency (ESA) is launching the EnVision spacecraft in 2031 or later to study Venus and its past. EnVision will tell us the history Venus experienced that drove it from being habitable to hellish. NASA is collaborating with ESA to enhance the scientific output from their missions.
Jun 10, 2021 · EnVision will make detailed observations of Venus to understand its history and especially understand the connections between the atmosphere and geologic processes. As a key partner in the mission, NASA provides the Synthetic Aperture Radar, called VenSAR, to make high resolution measurements of the planet’s surface features.
Jan 27, 2024 · An artist's illustration depicts the EnVision mission to Venus, which will help scientists understand why Earth's most similar planetary neighbor in size is so different from our world.
