Nov 9, 2005 · Venus Express was ESA's first spacecraft to study our nearest planetary neighbour. In particular, it investigated the noxious atmosphere and clouds in detail and made global maps of the planet’s surface temperatures. Venus approaches twice as close to Earth as Mars ever does. In terms of size and mass, Venus is Earth’s twin and yet it has ...

Venus Express. Venus Express (VEX) is investigating the complex dynamics and chemistry of the Venusian atmosphere, and the interactions between the atmosphere and the surface, which will give clues about the characteristics of the surface. VEX will also study the interactions between the atmosphere and the inter-planetary environment (solar ...
Venus Express. Venus Express (VEX) was the first Venus exploration mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). Launched in November 2005, it arrived at Venus in April 2006 and began continuously sending back science data from its polar orbit around Venus. Equipped with seven scientific instruments, the main objective of the mission was the long ...
Follow us. @esascience. Thanks to a set of state-of-the-art instruments for planetary investigations, Venus Express dug into the secrets of the Venusian atmosphere. It studied its complex dynamics and chemistry, and the interactions between the atmosphere and the surface, which gave clues about the surface’s characteristics.
Sep 1, 2019 · Introduction. The Venus Express payload comprises a combination of spectrometers, spectro-imagers and imagers covering a wavelength range from ultraviolet to thermal infrared, a plasma analyser and a magnetometer. This set of instruments is able to study the atmosphere, plasma environment and surface of Venus in great detail.

The name Venus Express comes from the short time to define, prepare and launch the mission. It will take less than three years from the approval to the launch of the mission. To do this, ESA re-used the same design as the Mars Express mission and the same industrial teams that worked on that mission. What are the mission objectives?

Full size image. Spacecraft. The Venus Express spacecraft design was based on the successful Mars Express bus – a 600 kg three-axis stabilized platform 1.7 × 1.7 × 1.5 m in size with two body-fixed telecommunication antennas. The spacecraft carried about 600 kg of fuel used for maneuvers, orbit insertion, and keeping.
