You're correct, Atari games ARE generally poor in comparison to what came later. The best you can do these days is to try to appreciate them in context of where video gaming was at in the late 70s and early 80s.
Centipede is always fun. Warlords is fun if you have 4 paddles and 4 players. Breakout is another quick and fun game. The nature of most of Atari's library is a quick pick up and play type of game. There are a few longer games like Solaris and Raider of the Lost Ark, but those are rare.
Atari collecting and the Atari enthusiast community have existed for a long time. But anyone who was 10 years old when the 2600 came out is now 50. It should be no surprise that Atari collecting isn't 2017's latest fad among younger social media savvy audiences (whose nostalgic experiences, by and large, are of much later systems). Reply.
Dec 13, 2022 · You could say that many of the 2600's best games remain popular despite their simplicity. However, another way of looking at it is that those games endured the test of time because of that simplicity.
