Oct 26, 2015 · Probably the best concise introduction to Mary in Islam, this chapter presents the Qur’anic story of Mary augmented by elements of the story drawn from other Islamic sources, particularly the Qur’anic commentaries. It also examines theological elements that are at stake in Mary’s story.
Mary in Islam. Maryam bint Imran (Arabic: مَرْيَم بِنْت عِمْرَان, romanized: Maryam bint ʿImrān, lit. ' Mary, daughter of Imran ') is revered in Islam. The Qur'an refers to her seventy times and explicitly identifies her as the greatest woman to have ever lived.
In this chapter, there will first be a short overview of Mary’s place in the Qur’an and the sayings of the Prophet, that is, Hadith. Following this, the importance of Mary in Islamic theology and spirituality generally as well as Mary’s historical place within Islam will be outlined.
