Nov 4, 2020 · In 1643, the New Haven Colony absorbed the previously independent plantations of Guilford, Milford, and Stamford, consolidating its position on the mainland. In spite of ongoing disputes with the Dutch over the settlements on the Delaware, trade with New Amsterdam was brisk and relations were generally good.
In 1839, Major W. K. Rains, along with his partners Charles Thompson and Samuel Peck, established a store and conducted business at Milford Haven, which was named after a fa-vorite spot in Wales by Major Rains. However, on some old maps the small village was called Pecksville after Samuel Peck.
