- Hale’iwa Beach Park. Hale’iwa is a favorite among both tourists and locals for its laid-back vibe, incredible views, and green sea turtles. Part of an area renowned for surfing, its calmer waters provide better conditions for beginners and swimmers than most of the nearby beaches.
- Ko Olina Beach Park. Ko Olina, the planned vacation and resort community in Oahu’s southwest corner, boasts four beautiful lagoons that provide an idyllic beach setting.
- Kaaawa Beach. Kaaawa Beach, set below sheer cliffs on Oahu’s eastern shore is one of the most picturesque beaches on the island. The beach is stunning, but the strip of sand is narrow and the water is often rough or cloudy.
- Shark’s Cove. For diving enthusiasts, Shark’s Cove is the place to be. Part of Pupukea Beach Park, this small, rocky bay is teeming with sea life that hides in the smooth boulders and coral heads that line its bottom.
- Explore The Arts Scene In Kaka’ako. Located between Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Center is Kaka’ako. This is an up-and-coming neighborhood that has a killer local brewery scene, hipster coffee shops and trendy boutiques.
- Learn How To Make A Haku Lei. One of my favorite things to explore in Hawaii is its incredible culture. While you can learn how to string a lei at most Oahu resorts, a more local experience is to learn how to make your own haku lei.
- Swim At Kapena Falls. Oahu has a ton of incredible waterfall hikes, which is what makes it one of the best islands to visit in Hawaii. The most popular ones are Manoa Falls and Waimea Falls.
- Check Out A Farm Tour. For decades, Hawaii has imported about 90% of its food. Not only is that expensive, but it’s also a bit scary when you realize Hawaii has natural disasters like tsunamis and hurricanes.
- Stop at Green World Coffee Farm. To help keep you energized on your way up north, make sure to stop by the Green World Coffee Farm. Although it’s not technically on the North Shore (it’s located outside of Wahiawa), it’s worth a stopover for a quick espresso or slice of banana bread.
- Visit the Waialua Sugar Mill. The historic Waialua Sugar Mill first opened in 1865 and was one of the island’s most successful plantations and mills for more than 140 years.
- Eat and Tour Kahuku Farms. Kahuku Farms is one of the best places to eat for farm-to-table cuisine. The food is outstanding, and almost every ingredient comes directly from the farm (or sourced from neighboring farms on Oahu).
- Visit Malaekahana Beach. A hidden gem on the tippy top of Oahu, Malaekahana Beach is one of our favorite places to go snorkeling. It’s a bit off the beaten path for most tourists, so you’ll truly get that laid-back local feel when you visit.
- Escape the Crowds on Waikiki Beach. Nearly half of all visitors to Oahu stay in Waikiki, so you can imagine how crowded it can get on the beach. While Waikiki Beach may not be the most off-the-beaten-path destination, it’s still possible to find some secluded spots (if you know where to look!).
- Surf Waikiki Beach. As one of the top surfing destinations in the world, Waikiki is an awesome place to learn how to ride waves. But don’t be discouraged if you’ve never been on a board before.
- Friday Fireworks. If you’re in Waikiki on a Friday, then you won’t want to miss the weekly fireworks show. While fireworks are lit by the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, anyone can come and enjoy the show for free.
- Acai Bowls at Tropical Tribe. When you’re craving a refreshing, sweet treat, stop by Tropical Tribe for a tasty (and healthy!) acai bowl. Tropical Tribe once started out as a lunch wagon, but due to overwhelming popularity, they finally opened a shop right in the heart of Waikiki.
