Jan 14, 2022 · Ottawa city council unanimously approves the east-west light-rail transit line, which is to run through downtown as a replacement for the city’s downtown rapid-bus routes (known as the Transitway), where the volume of buses needed had become unsustainable. The line is a replacement for an earlier planned north-south line, which had been cancelled by the previous city administration.
