In November 1971, Montanans went to the polls to elect delegates to the constitutional convention. A Montana Supreme Court ruling prevented legislators and other elected officials from serving in the Convention.

Jun 7, 2022 · After a majority of Montanans voted in favor of rewriting the 1889 constitution, 100 delegates met at the Capitol in Helena in 1972 to iron out the details of a new one. Mae Nan Ellingson was one of those delegates, and the youngest to serve at the constitutional convention.
