Sep 19, 2005 · Panagra initially started a long time ago, a cooperation by Pan American World Airways and W.R. Grace back in 1929. Grace had been in Peru and the west coast of South America for over 100 years. It dominated ocean transport in the region and had blocked Pan Am from flying south of Panama down to the west coast.
Aug 6, 2021 · Panagra merged with Braniff International, Braniff then sold the routes to Eastern Airlines, and American Airlines acquired the routes from Eastern. American Airlines is still the dominant US carrier in South America but the airline who started it all was Panagra.
On July 12, 1929, Pan American Grace inaugurated its first service over FAM Route 9. However, until the end of 1929, Pan American operated the route as far south as Guayaquil, Ecuador, which included the use of PAA aircraft and personnel.
