Richfield is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota. An inner-ring suburb of Minneapolis, Richfield is bordered by Minneapolis to the north, Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport and Fort Snelling to the east, Bloomington to the south, and Edina to the west. The population was 36,994 at the 2020 census. [3]
Electors of the newly created Richland met on May 11, 1858, and changed the name of their town to Richfield. The boundaries of Richfield included all of congressional township 28 Range 24 and parts of adjoining townships, which together contained about sixty-three square miles.
Richfield didn't stay big for long. In 1886 St. Louis Park became a separate village, and in 1889 what was called "west Richfield" became Edina.
Richfield Historical Society collects, preserves, and shares the story of Richfield, Minnesota, from its time as a large rural township that encompassed much of south Minneapolis and many surrounding communities to its growth as a market farming center and its early development as a suburb.
