RadioShack (formerly written as Radio Shack) is an American electronics retailer, which was established in 1921 as an amateur radio mail-order business. Its original parent company, Radio Shack Corporation, was purchased by Tandy Corporation in 1962, shifting its focus from radio equipment to hobbyist electronic components.
Radio Shack company started in 1921 by two brothers, Theodore and Milton Deutschmann, who wanted to provide equipment for the field of amateur, or ham radio. The brothers opened a one-store retail and mail-order operation in downtown Boston at 46 Brattle Street. Charles Tandy bought Radio Shack for $300,000.
The company issued its first catalog in the early 1940s and then entered the high-fidelity music market.
