In 1291–91a he decides to be gentle to Pseudolus, just as in the last scene of the fourth act; in 1294–1304 he attacks him verbally and physically; and in 1313–32 there is a role reversal, with Simo entreating Pseudolus for some of the money he has to hand over and with Pseudolus playing the master.
Alone on stage, Pseudolus boasts of his ability to carry about schemes. Soon Pseudolus encounters Harpax, the Macedonian soldier’s slave, who is looking for Ballio.
